How To Market Your Music Effectively (innovate)…. New ideas

Music is my first love, marketing is my strength.

I have managed to combine the two to help the third love in my life….PEOPLE. There are several products on the Internet that address these issues (Music & Marketing). Everyone sees themself as an authority or Guru of sorts. The only thing to do is sift through the maze of products and find the ideal one that fully address your needs. Bear in mind that the requirements from the industry will basically be the same but your approach and needs are different.

Marketing is a very important element in any equation. Many questions need to be addressed. The first thing that must be asked is ‘ is this the right market ? ‘ In the case of music, the important factors are ;

1. Is the lyrics hitting (are they relevant)

2. Is the music entertaining?

3. Is the artist appeal there?

4. Would this song be playable (i.e does it fit in with others being played? and I am not referring to Mastering but content-wise)

They are two obvious approaches to marketing music. Two directions are available.

1. SATISFYING your chosen MARKET and

2. Build to SATISFY A MARKET.

It might sound complicated but I assure you, it isn’t. You either create to satisfy a demand or adjust to meet a demand. This is the integral part of NICHE Marketing. The principle of Demand and Supply in action. Parts of any effective marketing plan.

What is important are the basics as they pertains to this article,

1. Production of product

2. Product Protection

3. Effective Music Submission practices

4. Marketing of self and Product

5. Niche Marketing (finding & establishing it).

Cross marketing ideas are springing up every day (Trial Pay for example). Systems where you pay for what you want and get what someone thinks you NEED. The extra money for getting both items is paid by the store and they benefit by having you as a loyal customer. This marketing system can be applied to almost any product but especially new music that requires a solid test market. Whats there to lose?

All these areas and more are addressed in these books. I have found them both informative and entertaining from an artist and label perspective. ne of the many things that plague an indie label is product placement and with the blossoming of the Internet, effective, common sense marketing is important. Being able to compete with ‘big brother’ is very important. If you don’t keep up in a race, you get left. These books attempt to ‘keep up’ and forge ahead by knowing the ins and outs. I have found these ebook very informative and quite helpful. Nobody has all the answers but knowing the rules sure does help. The music business can be a very cut-throat one. If you approach it as such and don’t judge and accept everything ‘verbatim’ then you are on your way. Being shrewd and knowledgeable is key.

I have just touched on the surface in providing what is basic without being in depth. Being repetitive is boring and I in no way intend to copy someone else’s ideas. These books merely add to my ideas and principles that I adhere to. I would not suggest it if I found it to be completely wrong and totally non factual. On the contrary it adds and further enhances my views and touches on a number of subjects that were not entirely within my realm.
